"Carnivorous plants?" Roddy tried to remember. "I think I heard something about that. Ah, yes! They mentioned those in that book! That..." He paused, blushing. He was going to list off the title of one of the adventures involving his hero, Perilous Perry Panda. Of course, if he mentioned that to a professional with the plants, he'd probably look like some kind of dork.
"They mentioned it... in the detective handbook." He lied. "Yeah, something about them being used as weapons or something? Well, of course they could be used like that. It'd probably be easier to just do away with someone normally, like with a gun or something." He paused. "Not that I've ever comtemplated killing someone. It's just that I'd probably do it right. Not that I'd ever do it. I'm talking myself into a corner right now."
He sighed. "Frankly, I just came here because I was bored. I mean, otherwise I'd just be home, reading one of my books and waiting for something to happen."

"Well, truthfully, I think it would be an inhumane thing to do to use a poor plant as a weapon...trying to train it in attack. Just because these plants enjoy meat does not mean they should be taught to devour living flesh!" Hector said, passionate now about the conversation, as it had delved into controversial herbal issues. However, Roddy changed the subject, and Hector thought it best they not advance into an intense discussion about the humanity of deliberate plant attacks.
"Well anyways, I came here because, as I said, I'm unable to be in the gardens right now, and I sure as hell don't want to stay home with my brother...I can't stand that bastard, seriously. I thought maybe this would be a nice place to mingle, maybe find a date...however," Hector said, scanning the pool, "I don't see many people here within our age group."
The panther deliberately avoided looking at Sinatra at this time...

Sinatra cringed, looking away for a moment. "I couldn't think of a plant eating a living fur! That would be horrible!" he said, a paw over his heart. He looked to Hector, smiling as he defended his living. Can I really defend mine...? he thought to himself, immedietly passing the question off and giggling. "Wow, if you call your brother a bastard, you must really hate him!" he said, smiling softly. "Saying as I never had a brother--I don't even know my parents, actually--I wouldn't know how to feel about that!" He looked around swiftly, checking to see if anybody their own age had come. Nope, he thought to himself. "Well, Hector," he started, facing the panther again "I don't think that there's any girls here that are your.... age... And I think the same goes for you, Roddy!" he giggled shortly, and a lightbulb appeared above his head. "Unless those girls at the front desk are still there!"

Hector grimaced at the thought of trying to pick up chicks working behind a counter...it just made everything seem too...whorish in some way. Seriously, why else would you work at a pool if not to pick up guys. He didn't want to end up with STDs. Instead, the panther tried to focus on what else Sinatra had said. "My older brother," Hector began, "is in no way able to run our estate. My parents are both dead, so he runs the house now. He is undeserving of such a honor though. It horrifies me sometimes..."
Hector paused for a little while, contemplating his hatred of his brother. "Why don't you know your parents?" he suddenly asked Sinatra, remembering the little bit of personal information that the guy had shared.

Roddy looked hopefully over towards the front desk, but from where he was, he discovered that he couldn't see anybody, let alone a pair of girls. He sighed. Perhaps it was for the best. He probably would have made a complete idiot out of himself like he always did when he was in front of a pretty girl. Oh, if only he could be like Perry Panda, all suave and cool and capable of making a sexual innuendo without getting the ever-loving daylights slapped out of him. His storybook hero made it look so easy...
His attention came back to the conversation at hand. He cringed at the mention of dead parents and people not knowing them. How was he supposed to top that? He had already told his one non-cover story lie of the day, saying he was a private detective. Besides, lying about his parents; just what would they think if they heard that. So instead he just leaned back against the pool wall and listened, not really having much to add.

Sinatra cowered back shortly, getting slightly scared at the panther's harsh words. Then he brought up the topic he'd hoped that Hector wouldn't notice. His 'parents'. He looked away, swimming backwards a couple inches. He felt his ears twitch and he opened his mouth as if to speak, then closed it. How should I word this? Nobody's ever asked me about them... Not even Marc-Anthony...
Sin looked to Hector, then to Roddy who was leaning against the wall. Giving a deep inhale, then exhale through his nose. "I never knew my parents... because... I was abandoned on the streets. Marc-Anthony was a stripper at the Lucky Fox and had found me in a microwave box of all places. All I knew about them was that my mother was a prostitute and my father was most likely a client. Marc raised me in East Lucent in a rather nice apartment, and had well... taught me how to be a stripper, since I was born." He looked to their faces before returning his gaze to his footpaws, which were waving underwater to keep him afloat.
"I knew I was gay when I was ten, I'd had sex at least a dozen times by the time I was eleven--and it wasn't rape!--and Marc taught me everything that I would need to know in school. I mean, I'm educated enough to have a high school diploma. I just never bothered to get one. I'm 19 now, and I think I'm doing pretty good..."

At the end of Sinatra's explanation, Hector had felt like he'd just been dealt a blow to the head. Sex? At the age of 10? What was this world coming to? Maybe he was a mite bit conservative, but in the world that the panther had grown up in, he was told that it was questionable at best to have sex before marriage, let alone at 10! A stripper at that age? And so confident about his sexuality? God he hoped that Sinatra wasn't the subject of any child pornography segments. Yet he seems so happy?!
Hector couldn't really believe it, and his mouth ran faster than his thoughts. "Sorry if this sounds rude, or I'm prying, or what not," he blurted out, "but isn't being that...promiscuous...sure to give you at least one STD?"
The panther remembered thinking that he'd let loose, maybe try giving Sinatra a go, but...he didn't know what scared him more: having intimate relations with a male or intimate relations with someone who's done it at least 100 times?

Smiling lightly, Sinatra cocked his head at Hector's reaction. Somehow, he had expected this kind of thing to happen, so he just giggled and shook his head, kicking his footpaws subconciously to keep him floating. "You mean 'STI'. They changed the name, if you forgot," he said, adding a wink and a cocky grin at the end. "But no, I'm completely clean. I get checked every month, and for... back then, Marc made sure the people were checked. So everybody that wasn't clean was rejected. And don't forget, everything I did was completely on my will." Suddenly though, his eyes dropped and he chuckled slightly. "After all of the flings, all I want is... you know... a relationship? Yeah, somebody to love and snuggle up to. Somebody to come home to..." The more he talked, the more his eyes and ears drooped, soon his eyes were closed and his ears lay flat against his head.

Hector kind of just started nodding along with what Sinatra was saying, slowly coming back to the fact that he was in a community pool and his pays were starting to get all pruny. But it didn't matter, not really. He didn't want to interrupt the stripper's thoughts. However, when Sinatra turned the subject to relationships, Hector really had no idea what to say. He'd never been in a real relationship, not really, which was odd considering his charismatic character and natural good looks. However, he'd always been too consumed with his plants to really go out and find someone. He had Lenore to go to when he needed something, she was always there for love and support, his beautiful younger sister. But when it came to real relationships? Love? Hector was at a loss.
He kept nodding, half-heartedly, his mind going off in different directions, all leading back to the same concept and question...love...relationships...what were they really? Was it really so different than a brother and sisterly relationship? Was it really so much more? From things he'd heard of, they seemed like naught but trouble...
Getting prunier by the minute, Hector realized that his companion had closed his eyes. "You okay?" he asked hastily. "Wouldn't want you falling asleep and drowning in a community pool, you know..."
