((I'm really sorry I've been gone for so long guys, I'll understand if you don't want to continue this. I just needed to post one last time before I called it quits...))
Jamie looked at Dimitri with tired eyes, shoulders still refusing to release any tension they held, and nodded in a resigned manner. She would have to trace for a much longer time before she could start any analysis. This should have been expected, but she still seemed surprised to hear of such a thing. So much work came with her job, but she couldn’t think of doing anything else.
Would she ever be able to do anything else? No, this was part of her, even closer, it was who she identified herself as. Maybe it was sad that Jamie never saw her image in the mirror when she stepped out from a hot shower. All she saw was evidence to her life, sleepless nights, hard hours, caffeine diet. Really, there was nothing else she could see of herself besides her work. Jamie knew she had little friends, barely any family, but it never seemed that way. Surely someone so alone wouldn’t look like they carried the world on their shoulders when they looked into the mirror. That shouldn’t happen when you’re alone and you know no other life.
What was also sad was that she saw nothing wrong in it, not when it meant feeding the fire of the passion that sung in her blood of great things. It was intoxicating, and numbed her of most things others would feel miserable without. Jamie wouldn’t go so far as to call herself devoid of life, however, work came before going so far as to admit that to herself. Of course she did admit the possibility to herself, but usually thought of better things to do than think the thought through carefully. Maybe she was avoiding the issue, but the fire would always sing to her no matter what Jamie did or did not admit.
Blurry, lavender eyes darted at random parts of the room. With a sigh that spoke of a regret that no exhaustion could break, Jamie blinked rapidly three times in succession, and turned off her Keyxi. “Thank you both your time, but I am afraid I must retire for the night. I have just been informed by my tech that I will collapse soon if I continue like this. I shall return within three hours, with your permission, Sir?” the gloomy looking teenager forlornly requested. It was bothersome, but not as much as being sent to the infirmary for falling asleep during a high speed chase…
