Adeline was not proficient at hiding her emotions. Not at all. So it pained her to see the Angel in front of her going through these motions of picking up pencil and paper, staring at her, ready to dictate, without a flicker of expression going through his eyes. A flash of annoyance passed through Adeline, who was thoroughly tired with everything that had gone on in the past few days, after being so used to laying low and having other people do things for her, but she tried to hide it quickly. If Rook could be so stoic, why couldn't she?
She had been raised to act, to be deceptive, to hide true emotion but always show another. When she was on the ship with her parent's crew, they had also told her to overdo her emotions to cause pity and raise attention. As a result, when with Rook, she had nothing to lie for, so her emotions and acting habits had merely turned her into a drama queen. She would learn how to suppress her rage, her elatedness, her emotions. She needed to show Rook that he wasn't better than her. Two could play this game, though it might make for dull, monotonous conversations.
"Ready?" Adeline asked, a yellow eyebrow slightly raised. "It's four sets of five numbers, each with a dot after the third. I don't know if it's some sort of code or message, but I'm sure, intelligent and educated as you are, it'll be quite simplistic for you." Sarcasm dripped heavily from each word. Folding her arms, the tigress waited for Rook to respond, or show he was ready.

Ah so that's it. Libraries. Tabitha...I wish it had been a code, why some damn books? Books are so complicated. Ah Tabitha..
Rook did not respond, watching her features carefully for a moment, before looking down at the paper again, pencil in hand, however his other hand was still aglow with dim white light, he wasn't letting down his guard just because Adeline had agreed to play fair.
He diddn't think it of her, but she could easily strike a blow while he was distracted trying to transcript the numbers accurately, she was unpredictable and he could not afford to trust her at all, though he did have some kind of warped respect for her strength and courage he was sure the feelings weren't mutual.
Again, he did not relax.

"Alright, here I go, quick and easy now," Adeline said, folding her arms and leaning back. "First set: 348.57. Second set: 453.56. Third set: 332.79. Fourth set:297.03. Fifth set: 374.93. That's it. That was all that was on that big piece of paper. Now, care to elaborate on what that means?"
Adeline personally had no idea. Not only could she not read or write past the capabilities of a five year old, but her math skills weren't that great either. Give her some simple multiplication and addition and stuff; she was fine. Start talking about geometry and sine and cosine and you lost her. She started memorizing every line on your face. Her only real talent was sneakiness, and common sense...she had a lot of that.
She wanted to get drunk. Everything always made a lot more sense when she was drunk. The world always looked happier. Nothing ever smelled like dead fish or rotten eggs, and when she was hungry, her stomach growled happily, not angrily.

Rook had scribbled the numbers in his neat, smudgy script, the paper dampened by the cave's atmosphere, only to be plunged into the the warm depths of Rook's right coat pocket, which had not yet been sodden.
Rook was a weaver of words, though he hadn't' written seriously since his wife died, that part of him never completely let itself go, sometimes it was a good thing, sometimes it bred more nightmares than he should have had.
Rook was also fantastically bad at math, but no math was required. He knew the order of these numbers, and the way they stopped and ended only confirmed his suspicons.
He thought about going back on the deal, and simply walking out of the cave, Adeline could try to stop him of course, but he sincerley doubted that if that happened than she'd be the one walking out. However, he did not, it could cause repercussions in the future, the Tigress had a remarkable capacity for bitterness, and really, there was no reason she should not know. The Angels wanted people to know, or at least, they said they did.
Ironically, the largest secret to the Gates was not one they protected, it was freeware. Everyone was just too lazy, misled, or scared to crack it. and if anyone out of the organization could, it was Adeline and her group.
Not to say that this little deal didn't' show the potential of coming back and biting him in the ass, but hey, risks were apart of the job. His musing over with he drawled.
"They are the call numbers of library books. It's late. I've got to get going."

The call numbers of library books? Seriously? No...Adeline couldn't believe it could be so simple...well, actually, she could. She didn't know a thing about libraries; she had never even been to one. How could she possible have known that the numbers were the key to books? Great...even more stuff she wouldn't be able to keep up with. But...Groves! Groves would have known what the numbers had meant on first sight, but of course, Adeline hadn't had the chance to show him the letter. She had merely told him, briefly, what had happened, and had been whisked off to his home in hiding before coming here. He had no idea what was going on.
But she would have to get him to help her with this. This was one thing she was really helpless with...unfortunately. He would help her...right? Groves was never really on the "same side" as Adeline when it came to the Gates and the Angels: the tigress was a bit more extreme, but, they were always together in the end. And he would help her. Adeline knew that. She could sense it.
Her mind came back to Rook. He had to get going? Get going to do what? Adeline still wanted to get drunk...but she felt strangely alone in everything at the moment. She didn't want to be left alone, and she sure as hell knew Groves wouldn't let her drink in front of him. "Wait...um, I know this probably sounds weird, coming from a deranged psychopath whom you're enemies with..." Adeline started, realizing she sounded like an idiot, but continued anyways. "Do you want to go to Angelo's or something and get a drink? I really need to get drunk right now, and I don't want to be alone for fear I'll kill someone out of annoyance."

Rook stopped mid step and turned around to look at her, his gray eyes examining her again, he flicked his tail, pondering for a bit, it was certainly a tempting idea, especially for the devil may care side of him, but something told him getting drunk with the leader of a rebel organization would have him with more stripes than the tiger who was more than not expecting him at home. Or maybe they'd kill him, he had no idea how serious the offense was, as in all probability no one had ever done it before.
Ah how he wanted that drink...but....
He did smile a little "I will accompany you there, as a precaution you could say, but then I have to leave. For once I have someone waiting for me". He diddn't know why he had added that last bit, probably because Adeline would have no idea who he was talking about, and he wanted to make the fact that he was not alone, clear, to at least one other person.
and who better to divulge truth to than his enemy?

Adeline raised her eyebrows. "Someone waiting for you?" she repeated. "Like, on work business, for your precious Angels, or for something that actually requires relationships outside of work?"
Thinking, Adeline continued speaking before Rook had a chance to answer. A mischevious smile lit over her face. "Or is a relationship inside of work, but not work-related?"
Rook...in a relationship? Hard to imagine, but imagine it Adeline was. Anything was possible. No one would ever imagine Adeline with a guy, since she was all the "fearless leader feminist type", but if they ever saw her and Groves together, they would understand. Maybe it was the same for Rook and his "little friend."
Adeline stood up, ready to get out of the smothering, damp caves.

Rook smiled thinly, "I'll let you think about it, if you want to. I do like to see you squirm".
