Character Name: Ambrose DeLucia
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Species/Breed: 1/2 Swan, 1/2 Dragon
Current Occupation: Council Member {Ambassador}
Personality:
"That which we see, which we appear to be, is nothing more than a grand illusion, for we are all actors and staged magicians, each without own roles to play"
Ambrose is a kind soul whose compassion would appear to know no bounds. Though he sides with the council on the majority of its decisions and respects their wishes, he is not without a host of varied opinions and is held as a symbol of hope for the people. This, simply put, means that they see him as an individual meant to ensure the purity and soundness of the representative democracy that the Council stands for. His ear is lent to the Council, the Angels, the churches, and the citizenry as needed, and he passes no judgment of his own lest it be said to be unanimous within the council chambers. However, softened eyes, a warm smile, and a damned convincing argument tend to go a long way regardless of his heritage and he does voice his opinions on matters of the utmost importance.
Charity is another of his virtues, making him the perfect target for hucksters and shady characters of all sorts, though he is not particularly gullible, merely forgiving, believing that everyone deserves a second chance....or for those living under the duress of extreme poverty, any chance at all at a decent life. To that end, Ambrose is known for spending a good portion of his free time at local orphanages, ensuring the continued well-being of the denizens found within, and has a certain fondness for children, even going as far as hoping to have a few of his own some day.
"Inside we are crumbling, for within lies the ugliness that our illusions seek to conceal."
For all his outward shows, Ambrose cannot deny that he is straying from the right and proper course of action in regard to the continued existence of peace and prosperity in Lucent. For now, he fights to remain fair and just, yet inside lies conflict and turmoil, ideas that one would have horrified him now seem preferable. Each time he sees the Angels head off against the Council his mind rebels against ingrained sensibilities. Who should he follow? The council holds him now, and yet they would shun any others of his kind, despite his own assurances to the people that this is not so. His heart yearns for a true purpose....for an end to all the prejudice...the injustice....
Appearance: With the general purity of the majority of the council members, Ambrose is a sight to behold as he sits amongst them. He has a naturally regal posture enhanced by a long, elegant neck and a slender muzzle. Soft snow white feathers cover both the smaller, silvery gray scales that run from his neck to the tip of his tail in a thick band near his spine (providing both a place for a silvery ridge to run along his back, as well as subsequent support for the graceful movements that propel him about the Council chambers), and the larger, darker gray color scales that run from his mid-band scales to the edges of a feathery smooth, scaleless belly.
The feathers shielding his scales from view range in glossiness, with the glossiest of them running along his spine, with the slightly duller ones running closer to his belly, and give way to blackened scales along his muzzle that sweep upward across the sides of his muzzle to a point where they form a small, black ring around each of his light/sky blue eyes. Behind these dark rings lie behind which three tailored black feathers that lie under three large white ones and have the look of a brand or a mask. Above these markings, small, pointed ears mostly hidden by larger feathers, are backed by long, pointed white horns that curve gently backward and run to the middle of his neck.
Long sleek black hair frames his face almost a bit too perfectly, standing in stark contrast to the majority of his other features, and is fraught with several silver highlights, many of which tend to be found in his bangs. Most of the time, he keeps his dark locks out of the way by securing them with a ribbon (his ribbon usually matches his outfit in some way, shape, or form) in order to keep them from falling into his eyes, thereby obscuring his vision.
Like his neck and muzzle, many of Ambrose's features are on the long and slender side, lending him the appearance of something graceful. These features include long legs and a lithesome body with muscles and sinews toned and tightened beneath the surface, belying his considerable strength with a deceptively fragile appearance, whilst his coloring marks him as a creature relative pure in nature.
Ambrose is not, however, without an obvious defensive mechanism. Diamond sharp, talon-like claws tip the ends of otherwise dainty hands and feet. Hopefully, they serve as a warning against taking advantage of this otherwise feeble and innocent seeming creature.
The power of personal, unaided flight also serve to keep him well protected and serve him in good stead, this being granted to him by large white wings that have the characteristic shape of dragons' wings, all calculated angles and delicate sloping but are, like his body, covered with a closely knit network of soft white feathers, these ones being greater in length than any of the many others found on his body. Mind you, they aren't simply there to look at and carry him about on a whim. Ambrose's wings also serve as one of the main tools in the defense of his person, being one of the most powerful parts of his body, they are surprisingly agile for their size and can go from hugging the back of his form to fully extended (this being done in any range of movements from a quick lashing to languid unfurling) in a matter of milliseconds. Most furres tend to stand clear of them as a general rule...just in case.
"Believe not that beauty is ephemeral, for those that have it hold it dear and should never relinquish it."
Background: As most influential families with an excess of riches are wont to do, The DeLucia's doted upon their only son, despite his halfbreed status (and yes, they tried to keep distasteful slurs like scratch from ever reaching his ears, even if they themselves used them in every day conversation), allowing him to parade after each whim, fancy, and passion that took him up. The first of which was dance, something from which his Council abiding (and funding) father attempted to steer him away from with a decent amount of success. After all, Ambrose had no intention of disobeying his father's wishes, for the man was, simply put, awe-inspiring and Ambrose did love him dearly.
After having his attentions shifted toward formal piano lessons, a distraction, and a fairly pleasant one, he was spirited away by a young man with a talent of instruments of all sort. Apparently, playing the piano forte was one of Armand Vassar's many gifts. It was one day, during a private lesson, when Armand picked up his violin in order to accompany Ambrose as he played the piano, that the young dracoswan fell in love. There was something about the quick vibration of the strings, and the feel of the aged and polished wood against his hand that commanded both his respect and his devotion the moment Armand allowed him to try it (apparently he'd stopped playing the piano abruptly and had begun staring at the stringed instrument mid-piece).
From that day forward, Ambrose resolved that he would become a musician, and he entertained grandiose but childish dreams of becoming a world famous violinist. Those dreams, however, served only to bring him suffering.
Upon overhearing about the poor state of the orphanages on the 'other' side of Lucent, Ambrose made up his mind to take his music there and saw for himself the crushing power of poverty and the first stirrings on injustice. it was this which led him, ever the young idealist, to seek out the considerable influence of Council. It was also around this time that the term 'scratch,' first became known to him as delivered by a 6 year old girl in tattered clothing who had been tortured and degraded by the word's use since her birth.
Seeing the potential in him, in his kindness and blind idealism, and looking to silence the voices of those in the general population who claimed that the Council shared those same prejudices against those born with mixed blood, the Council soon drew Ambrose into their fold. Since his election to a seat upon the Council (which, unbeknownst to him, was fixed), Ambrose has set aside his violin in order to serve as the right had of justice and serves as an ambassador for the Council in many a matter....but he wonders even now if he can truly live up to the expectations of the people.
