Character Name: "Harlequin" Perry
Gender: Male
Age: 53
Species/Breed: Calico Cat (purebred)
Current Occupation: Retired Council Member/Author
Personality: Quiet and aloof, Harley often comes across to his fellow furres as being like a teacher in mid-lesson. Knowing full well that some people regard him as a genius, he pads this with a practiced confidence that oftentimes makes it seem as though he really does know everything. More than anything, he enjoys a good verbal spar and the chance to bounce ideas off of other people, which also gives him the sometimes annoying trait of starting pointless debates and arguing moot points just for fun.
If circumstances allowed, Harley could have proven to be quite the family man. As it is, he has an innate desire to help people in need, especially youngsters. He enjoys playing as the father figure and mentor to people, mainly because he never had children of his own. While he enjoys the chance to stay cloistered in his home with his books when he wants, sometimes his home becomes a very large, lonely place. Not that he'd admit that to his friends. After all, he wouldn't want to seem like some lonely old man.
Appearance: Standing a hair or two below the average (and shrinking ever so slowly, he might note with chagrin), "Harlequin" doesn't make the most imposing figure. Especially when one takes into consideration his fur coloring, which has a unique mottled pattern of white, brown and black that gives him his unfortunate nickname. He has long, shoulder length brown hair and bright, mischievous yellow eyes.
Strangely, he seems to have only one type of outfit: formal business suits, which he wears rain or shine, day and night. And on his body, several leftovers from his old job still linger. He walks with a crooked gait from an old wound, and his face is marred with a large gash scar across the bridge of his nose.
Background: Harley was born into an upper class family; the proud Perry's, whose line was carefully watched over. In life, his parents were loving, but distant. Their marriage was almost forced upon them, so their home life wasn't exactly perfect. That didn't mean that hot soup was pitched on a regular basis, but Harley's earliest memories of his family wasn't exactly warm.
From an early age, "Harlequin" was destined for something great. He was a prodigy in school, and he seemed almost destined for a promising career. He found it in politics, and quickly attracted the attention of the Council. Being from a high-born family, purebred, and having proved himself to be a very competent politicker and debater, he was a perfect candidate and was inducted into the order at an early age.
While he was working with the Council, he discovered a large bias against the group known as the Angels. Curious, he decided to look into the organization and was impressed. So much so that he decided that they should get more support than they were getting. However, knowing that his career might be compromised, he decided to back the group in secret. This support started out small, but got more fervent right around the time his old friend, (who he had been watching over with the friend's daughter as though they were both his own children) joined the Angels as an Apprentice, and in exchange he got an important contact in the Angels.
Unfortunately, his career came to a very dramatic end when he was almost killed. After one of the meetings, he had been walking with his friend Rook when he was shot at by an extremist. He survived, and the assailant was brought to justice, but from that day on he couldn't walk properly. It was immediately after that incident that he quit the Council.
Since then, he had written many books on his own theories, making the full switch from politico to philosopher with few hiccups. Nowadays he is still in the public eye, though much less so now. He now spends his days in quiet study and reflection, getting reacquainted with old friends and making the shift from work to happy retirement.
