Character Name: Bryony "Tag" Bentley
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Species/Breed: Purebred Arctic Fox
Current Occupation: Middle Angel, with a specialization in detective work (both field and research).
Personality: Tag is a motivated young woman: focused, capable, intelligent, responsible, and wildly ambitious. She has always felt a call to and a captivation with the Gates, indeed, her obsession has driven others away from her in the past. Though, it does have to be said, Tag is excellent at pretenses. She could have been a great actress, had her heart not been entirely set on something else. For all those who she need not have emotionally honest interactions with, Tag can seem for all the world to be a perfectly friendly girl, the kind nobody doesn't like. And she does actually have some of the qualities that she projects. Empathy. Compassion. Protectiveness. Tag's problem is that she gives warmth to others, but takes none in; she doesn't let anyone inside her head. This can lead to anything from snapping at people to rare emotional breakdowns, to a deliberate ignorance of personal endangerment. Despite her controlled exterior, Tag is in constant flux of teetering on the edge of her own limits, and wondering if she'll ever get pulled back. Part of her way of relieving this inner turmoil is humor. Tag's got a reactive sense of humor, so her comments are usually a response to something that happens or something someone says. And usually, it's pretty morbid. Or dark. Or sarcastic. Or just plain mean.
Appearance: Tag is pretty much the last image that would come to mind when thinking of the imposing title of Angel. Standing at a petite 5' 0", Tag is anything but intimidating. Her figure complements her height though, with a tiny ribcage and curvier hips, with strong (if slightly short) legs. Her hands (or rather paws) are also quite small, and not particularly well-suited for handling larger weapons, but are great for more delicate work. Being an arctic fox, Tag is built for the cold, and while if the weather were ever warm she would shed, but it isn't, so Tag is constantly covered in a layer of thick, pure white fur. The only parts of her fur that aren't white are tinted in a pale gray, which includes her ears, paws, tip of her tail (which is long and even fluffier than the rest of her), and a stripe that runs along the top of her muzzle from her nose, ending right before it would go between her eyes. Her hair, which comes down wavy and about 5 inches past her shoulders, is naturally white, but she keeps it dyed bright, cupcake pink, which contrasts strikingly with her yellow-gold eyes. Tag's chosen clothing does suit her specialization in detective work, as it hits a perfect balance between 1920's and film noir. Her favorite piece is a knee-length black trench coat, double-breasted, with a cloth belt that cinches tightly around the waist. She also never wears pants, only skirts, however impractical they might seem. (Tag's an arctic fox, after all. She can get away with wearing skirts in this weather. As long as she's got a good pair of boots.)
Background: Since she was just a child, Tag loved mysteries. She devoured book upon book of them, marveling over the genius of the characters and the brilliant ways they would solve the problems before them. It was a good escape. It's not that Tag had a bad home life. It's that it was more just "life" and less "home". Born to a family where she just didn't fit, Tag's quietness as a child only made her all the more estranged. Her beacon was her best friend, with whom she could truly interact and communicate with. They both shared the same love of the unknown. The true nature of the gates and the island they lived on was their calling, and the best way to get to that, they decided, was to aim to become Angels. Tag was really better suited for it from the very beginning. Brilliant and driven, she progressed through school much faster than her friend, who floundered behind. Tag tried to slow down for him, but it wasn't enough, and she watched her friend's hope slowly falter. When they were fifteen, a regular police officer came to the school, and announced the suicide of her friend. Dark a time as it was for her, nothing could have pushed Tag more, and she graduated early, by the end of the following year and proceeded straight on to be an apprentice, a rank which she passed with flying colors. Even the fledgling stage didn't take long, at about 3 years. It was during that time that she started being known as "Tag", for her uncanny accuracy with small firearms. Everyone actually expected firearms to become her specialization, and quite a few were surprised at her choice of detective work. (No one was surprised that she didn't proceed to become an ArcAngel. Her combat skills other than using guns were average... at best.) What she sacrificed really did cost her, however. Tag had very little that was precious in her life, and really, the only thing to give up was the memories of her friend. Now she only knows that someone very important to her existed, or exists, and that she gave up everything she ever remembered about them.
