Character Name: Aidan Trevor Collins, everyone just calls him by his last name…
Gender: Male…
Age: Thirty-eight…
Species/Breed: ½ Lung Dragon/¼ Peafowl/¼ Turkish Angora Cat
Current Occupation: He is a prominent member of the council, Conductor of Ceremonies to be exact, and also the owns and runs the company that manufactures Keyxi technology, Aurora Industries. Collins also deals in the black market as well as anyone who pays the most…
Personality: Collins is a no nonsense sort of person and hates it when other people fail to get results and only give him excuses. Though he is a tough task-master, he is very generous if you succeed. He has a way of making you be punished just by the disappointed look he gives you when you give him bad news, and he is a master at guilt trips. Collins is very charming and a gentleman, always waiting for you to stop speaking, and holding the door open for others. He is disgusted when people complain and are not grateful for what they have, and makes the one complaining feel like a fool and selfish. Though he is usually a gentle-spoken person, with a clear and precise ring to his voice, he can change it like a storyteller, and enchants his audience with his liquid words that seem to hold great wisdom. This makes him a flawless liar, and perfect in his duty as Conductor of Ceremonies. Collins no longer thinks of himself as a good person, or even an honorable one. How could he after the things he has done in the name of Aurora Industries, the people of Saint Lucent, and the Council? Though he does have his preferences in the company department, however, for instance, he finds any Angel distasteful. This is due to his friends with hands deep in illegal affairs are arrested by the Angels. Collins goes into silent withdrawals from the world on weekends alone, thinking of strange and odd things few people should ever have to think. He thinks like a murderer, a victim, a form of justice. There are countless roles he puts himself in as he thinks on his balcony. Collins has a remarkable ability to find talent, and to use his charm to let people do what they do best. Unlike most CEO’s who believe they can do everyone else’s job better, he is honest to himself and only intervenes if he believes that the best is not being done, otherwise he makes no move to be nosey about another’s business. Collins is lavish on others besides himself, and actually has a meager set budget, as one of his punishments he has set on himself. He enjoys walking the city, as one of the only people to actually do so safely without any thought to whatever danger he may come upon. Collins very Zen in his philosophy, and has a lot of self-mockery. However, he has a high self-esteem, nearly to the point of arrogant, but he feels justified in this matter and has no guilt on this fact. He is still very kind-hearted and gentlemanly. Collins has lasting friendship with the people from his childhood and takes care of them when they need help, even if they are in serious and deadly trouble, he can afford to be loyal to his friends. Collins can afford to be anything…
Appearance: Collins has the body of Lung Dragon, from his father. He also has little, pearl-colored, antlers associated with the Lung Dragon. Unlike most Lung Dragons, he has a pair of legs as well as a pair of arms, both are the paws of a cat. Instead of a scales, he has fur and a few feathers. His face is a royal purple with dots of white, because of this his whiskers are nearly impossible to find. His hair is ebony black, cut with a smart but casual style. Though larger than most, his ears are those of a cat, and a dark silvery color. Along his body from neck down, Collins colors slowly turn from royal purple, to purple-blue, to navy blue, to silvery blue, to silver, to iron gray, to ebony black. His paws and under-belly are snowy white, however. At the end of his tail, there are peacock feathers, where they can spread out like a classy fan. Collins’ eyes are a warm, golden-brown with black lids. Though he is slightly exotic for those who prefer pure-breeds, his charm and manners usually put such petty matters aside with any company. While at work, Collins dresses in snowy white suits. When he is walking the streets he prefers to wear layers of unmatched clothing that are meant to keep him warm instead of demand attention and respect. At home, Collins wears either his worn, terry-cloth robe, or his teal, silk pajamas with little musical note and bubble print. After all, what’s the point of money if you can’t act like a total slob when you’re at home? Collins doesn’t care, rarely anyone visits him long enough to see him with his clothes on…
Background: Collins was born to a rich, but usually drunk, heiress and the CEO of Aurora Industries as well as a Council member who had a thing for gambling. After a month of constant fighting, his parents set out on a seven year long, divorce. His mother, Sandra, eventually won most of the estate, money…and him much to her displeasure. She remarried to another CEO of a rival company and quickly gained back her social status. Still, she was quite the drinker, and by the time Collins was eleven, she fell over quite dead at a tea party, most disturbing.
Poor Collins was sent to his biological father because his step-father just never got around to adopting him. This of course did Jackson, his step-father, a great disadvantage, for the late Sandra had not updated her will in three years. Which, obviously, left Jackson out of the will and Collins the only one to benefit. After a rather drawn out battle of the lawyers, his father quite eagerly adopted him officially.
Now, his father, still a gambling Council member named Alex, decided to make something of his son. Collins was sent at the age thirteen, to a boot camp of sorts, to “toughen him up”. He did miserably. What would you expect of a boy who never played with other boys his age, and had never once in his life been shown the “ropes” by any sort of father figure? Collins bore the brunt of bullying from the fugitive teens put in boot camp, and of the staff, which also came from the short-end of the stick. He was a weak, timid, and not very bright boy. It even made him develop a nervous stutter by the end of summer.
Once he was brought home, he was put under a snotty tutor and nanny who made things worse. The tutor, fool that he was, taught Collins the most useless things, such as the basic components of an ancient microwave. If the boy showed any cleverness in a subject or a genius for technology, the man would scold him and give him another useless subject to study. The nanny was the worse culprit, however. She would never allow him outdoors, even in warm weather, and would often give him sweets and tell him how wonderful everything he did was. Soon Collins grew to be a sickly, spoiled, stupid, and rude teenager.
The next summer he was sent yet again to the boot camp. It was a needed wake-up call for the young Collins. This time it came down to fights between an older teen, Justin, sent there for selling technology on the black market, and Collins; no one else dared to get involved. After bailing Justin out of trouble by lying about where he got his injuries to an investigator, he and Collins became fast friends. Under his protection, he was left in peace by even the staff who surprisingly bullied him the most.
Another summer passed, much more pleasant than the last one, and Collins returned home to face his old tutor and nanny. After having a frustrating argument with both his tutor and his nanny about whether or not he should be allowed to play outside with boys his age, he stormed to his father and persuaded him to fire both of them.
Collins got his wish and soon was enrolled in a private school. Though he was three years behind everyone else his age, he was fascinated and quickly jumped a year after a semester. After school he would find his friends from East Lucent, who came often to the wealthy part of town to do dealings in the black market, and stay out until dusk. Once dusk came, he would dash home, take a bath, eat supper, and study until midnight. In his spare time, and on stormy days, he would read books on the ways of gentlemen, how to run a company, and his favorite, micro technology. The school year ended with him nearly up to speed with his age group.
And like every other summer, he was sent to boot-camp. This time was different. To everyone he seemed noble and gentle, but quickly astonished them with his wit and charm. Soon everyone wanted to be his friend, as did he, but for much different reasons. Though they had no knowledge of his identity, Collins knew that it would do well for him to have friends and allies in every corner and shadow.
He came home the victorious champion that year, with a new air of confidence that his father quickly noticed. Alex began to take an interest in his son more, and even began to spend time with him. Surprised, and very relieved that his son was no longer a disappointment, he began to bring him to the public eye. In the lime-light, Collins proved to be a master at charming anyone, and very much a ladies’ man. There was no indication of any form of scandal though, due to his father’s status, and his own special effect on the press.
The next three years went by in a blur of celebrity, joining the black market, graduating high school, and beginning college with a major in micro technology design. He also studied psychology and social principles to better understand how to gain influence with people. He spent six years in college, never once going to a party, or spending time with his father at Aurora Industries. Everyone took it as a sign of dedication and a thirst for knowledge. Though he graduated with an average grade in everything, it was because he studied and majored in multiple subjects over the years.
His father hired him as a manager of a branch of Aurora industries that developed what was at that time, minor technology that produced “micro-tech” ((they called him MT when they first met him because he quickly impressed them by his understanding of the products unlike past managers)). Collins quickly became depressed within a year, however, after his branch of the company was disbanded after the board of directors decided that there was no use in funding the under productive branch. He took onto drinking for about a month before he got his act together.
Taking the incentive, he persuaded the workers to start their own company. Most of them reluctantly agreed and became employees under him. Under his management they lasted three prosperous months with some startling breakthroughs before their rival companies began to sabotage their contracts with their shipment supply companies. This led Collins’ company nearly being annihilated, and if it wasn’t for his old friend, Justin, he would have lost everything. He began trading in the black market, showing an aptitude for the underhand dealings. Soon, Collins small company began to expand, and was beginning to develop the Keyxi.
Aurora Industries, however, was doing extremely poorly. Alex had taken too many risks, and his career was paying the tab. They began to auction off the shares to other companies in hopes that it would pull them out of debt. One rival company was planning to buy them out so that Aurora Industries would lose their value and eventually plummet to ruin in debt and work-force drain. However, on every count they were outbid at every stock auction, and their plans were foiled for the time. Once all the stocks were sold to a number of different bidders, Aurora Industries suddenly announced that they were merging with Collins’ small and unnoticed company. It had been revealed earlier that week to the board of directors that all the stocks had been bought by Collins from different bank accounts.
Alex quietly resigned and went into early retirement, leaving Collins in his place. He politely accepted the position of CEO and owner of Aurora Industries and set about changing everything. He offered free child care, room and board, annual vacations, free weekends, and decent pay checks to those who had at least a year long contract with him. People flocked, hoping, praying for jobs at Aurora Industries. After he had hired those he knew he would need over the years, and a bit extra, Collins ordered every building that belonged to Aurora Industries demolished and set his employees to work on designing, building, and decorating the new buildings with the future in mind. It was a shocking move, but for some reason many people liked it. Maybe it was the money that was pouring in their pockets; maybe it was the thought of an amazing future with Mr. Collins leading the way with Aurora Industries.
Because of the mass amounts of people working on the project, with good money, and total organization, the new residences of Aurora Industries was finished within five years. The work place dynamics changed as well. The groups were smaller and meant to work as a team with whatever their task was. If there was any slacking, it was recorded by randomly placed micro cameras, developed by Aurora Industries. At first this enraged the employees, but soon Collins gave them more benefits because of their increased productivity after the installations, and it was soon forgotten.
Collins still worked with the black market, keeping ties to his old friends that had ears in sharp corners and dark shadows. This never quite reached the public ear, however, due to his charming the media since he was a young man. He seemed spotless behind the ears. He gave jobs to anyone, no matter who or what they were, if they were competent enough; he was very gentlemanly and seldom lost his temper or tongue without reason;
he annually held charity events which became increasingly popular over the years; he wasn’t bad looking, and was in very good shape, and extremely intelligent and clever; and he was a man of the future, creating technology to make their harsh lives more bearable.
Towards his late thirties, Collins was asked to join the Council, as the new Conductor of Ceremonies. Honored beyond his wildest childhood dreams, he quickly accepted. Little did he know what secret ceremonies the Council would have him perform. Shocked and horrified at what he thought was a place of decisions and honor, had turned into a horrendous nightmare they called “justice”. He refused to perform the ceremony, not to the Council’s surprise. It was their plan after all. Then, solemnly the very moment he had refused, they began to vote on his punishment. Collins was never the same after that. Ever since then he has a distant look in his eye when performing a ceremony, but he always conducted the ceremonies without hesitation or emotion.
Other than his obvious hatred to his duty, he is fully enthralled with the dynamics of the Council. There are no official groups, but alliances are made in hopes that it will play out. They often treat other like rival lawyers, pouncing on mispronunciations and any form of mistakes that they might use to their advantage. It barely falls under the category of a democracy. At that point the “disagreements” between the Council and the Angels are becoming more violent and public, so everyone on the Council is centered towards a common goal, but is usually undermining each other. There is no voting by the people, their government has some Confucianist elements, and who is the most influential on the Council has the most power. Every deal and alliance with another Council member having to do with a state issue is quickly public to others, no matter how anonymous a member wishes to be. If they want to have a new Council member, mostly to use it later as a “you owe me” deal, a position has to be open, you must nominate a candidate, and the candidate must fill certain requirements, after this, the Council votes from the list of candidates. Of course there is more on the matter of the Council dynamics, but the point was that Collins fit very well in this environment.
At age thirty-seven, Collins’ MT branch of Aurora Industries developed and perfected the life changing technology, Keyxi. Though very heavy and inconvenient at first, the MT department gave breakthrough after breakthrough with the Keyxi. It quickly became the number one used tech in Catori. Collins’ Aurora Industries is going places…
