Character Information
Canon? Yupperdy
Character Name: Callahan Groves
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Species/Breed: Liger (Lion x Bengal Tiger)
Current Occupation: Owner of the antique shop "Groves."
Personality: Some call him a recluse, others just think he's plain paranoid, but beneath that quiet exterior is a brilliant mind. A little too brilliant, some might say. He uses his eloquent speech and grammar in his everyday language, which might confuse some people, but to those like Adeline, it's a rather cute trait. Of course, he knows that she hardly understands him either... but because of his history, his parents as strict literature and language arts teachers, and many other factors, he just can't tear himself away from it.
Besides being downright smart, Callahan is a severe xenophobic--that is, he has a fear of anything different or strange, especially if it's people. It takes time for him to get used to new people, which impairs his experience working at his antique shop. His behavior towards shoppers keeps most new visitors from coming back, which is just all right with him, mostly because Adeline takes care of the shop more than him. He doesn't really care for the shop, anyway, since he focuses more on the Foundry and Adeline than expensive junk.
Callahan does not smoke or drink, but he'll have a scotch or sip of wine, depending on the occassion. He does not crave drink or smoke or any kind of drug, mostly because he figures that it "ruins your brain cells," and it wouldn't be fitting for a man like him. But this influence of "no drink or drugs" policy was imprinted upon him by his parents, who had no alchohol in the house other than a good sherry or two.
Appearance: A tall Furre, about 6'4", thin but not anorexic. His eyes are a dull grey-blue, his hair in a semi-mane around his head, just a shade darker than his natural tawny fur. Strips of brown, from his tiger genes, wrap around his body and melt away from his face, making his hair just as striped. His high metabolism couples with a strange gene he gains from his father that makes him never stop growing, although at a slow rate. Thus, he is similar to a beanpole and is often pushed around by the winds. He wears just as warm clothing as anyone else in St. Lucent, yet inside, when the air conditioning makes everything peachy warm, he strips down to a delicately tailored three-piece suit, often forgetting the jacket. An antique pocketwatch clips into one of his suit pockets and he always seems to be checking the time on it.
Background: Born the son of Grant and Candace Groves, two very intelligent people, learned in the ways of literature and langage arts. They sought to teach their son just that, and so he rivals their knowledge with his. Not only did he excel in speech studies, but math as well. Eventually, trigonometry and calculus became a breeze by the age of fifteen. Yet, matheatics nor laguage studies were in his future--he longed to travel outside the gates of St. Lucent, see what the world had for him beyond those walls. But of course, the outside world was a dangerous and lonely place--so he settled for a job as a shop manager instead, gathering antiques from around the city. This disgraced his parents, who always wanted him to be something like a doctor or literary critic. So, Callahan broke his ties with them.
Then along came Adeline, an outsider, a mystery. He had always been afraid of the new and strange, mostly because that was what had been instilled in every child's heart that lived in St. Lucent. But, he came to know her, gave her a job in his shop, and eventually fell in love. Most wouldn't think Adeline the greatest woman, especially for a man like Callahan to become romantically involved with, but it was because she was not the stereotypical good girl that he fell head over heels for. Of course their relationship had their faults... Callahan neverminds them and works with her almost blindly, like a lovesick puppy.
