Character Name: Lionel Adino
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Species/Breed: Black Panther aka melanistic jaguar
Current Occupation: Heir to Adino fortune, owner and manager of The Gardens
Personality:
Lionel often comes across as soft and meek to most, especially when around his snappy siblings. Though he is the oldest in the family and also the heir, he takes such a role out of duty and not out of desire. He does love the gardens, his enthusiasm lying especially in any water plants, but he does not wish to be he caretaker of them. Being in The Gardens terrifies Lionel thanks to a childhood incident, and he avoids ever venturing into them alone or for long periods of time. The logistics of hiring worthy gardeners to keep up The Gardens is wearying to him. He does love the financial part of his heirdom, being a mathematician at heart. If it were not for his father’s untimely death, Lionel would most likely have become a math teacher due to his love of math and his patience.
Lionel is very civil and polite to anyone he meets. Despite being from a pure Furre family and thus more inclined to think less of mixed breeds, he tries to keep an open mind. He is always ready to learn, even if he can be a bit shy in getting to know others initially. Around loud, opinionated Furres he tends to clam up, slipping into the background with ease. If one gets to know him, they will find him a panther of gentle nature, very caring, and always ready to listen. He is no pushover, however, and does have a thin streak of silent persistence in him if he really wishes for something to happen.
Lionel’s relationship with his sister and brother is distant, for he tries to keep them at arm’s length. Being the heir and thus controller of the family’s money, he feels it would be unfair to have a favorite sibling and fall prey to favoritism. Adding to this is the fact that his personality differs greatly from that of his younger siblings, making him a bit of a standout. In terms of love – and these are things he would never tell his ferocious family – Lionel is quite lonely. He wishes for someone to care for. This wish is hard to fulfill, however, because he knows he would be highly ridiculed for marrying out of the panther line. However, panthers tend to be a fierce and competitive race, making it hard for Lionel to find the gentle hearted, soft spoken mate he desires.
Appearance: Lionel is a pure black panther, a color variation on a jaguar. As such, his coat is a lustrous black, sometimes appearing to have purple and blue highlights. He is very meticulous about keeping his appearance sharp and keeps his fur very well groomed, giving him a sleek look. Around his shoulders and down his back, if one looks very closely in the proper light, deeply black rosettes spot his skin. His eyes are a soft blue, the color of the skies in spring. His hair is also black, choosing to fall in curly locks around his head, a hairstyle he has yet to tame. Through his curled hair two smart black ears can sometimes be seen. His smile is soft, despite his fearsome display of teeth, and his face tends to have a thoughtful, almost gentle, look about it.
Built thin and lanky, Lionel is far from a stud. To his dismay, his sisters may be more muscular and tough looking than he is. Although he is wiry, proving to be somewhat muscular if he can be convinced to take off his shirt, Lionel just looks like he’s never grown out of the awkward young child phase. His fingers are long and aristocratic, his legs lanky and slightly gangly. His tail is also long and thin, often lashing slowly behind him when he is in deep thought.
As an heir, Lionel considers it his duty to always look sharp. He typically wears dark suits, which blend with his fur rather well. On special occasions he will pull out either a dark maroon suit or a creamy white one. He wears nice dress shoes, various colors of button up shirts, and occasional ties. Overall Lionel comes across as aristocratic and old fashioned, something he doesn’t mind too much. He secretly wants to carry around a cane, but fears his sisters would mock him too much. If working in The Gardens, he will usually take off his shoes and suit jacket in order to not soil them.
Background:
Lionel is the heir to the Adino fortune and The Gardens. He was born as the eldest of the Adino family, a Furre line of pure black panthers. His birth was much celebrated by his parents, who were desperate for a strong and healthy family. Even as a young cub, Lionel had a gentle streak a mile wide. He would often just sit and contemplate as a baby, staring at whatever drew his interest and rarely crying. As his siblings were born the differences between them and Lionel became more apparent. They were always tussling, sometimes drawing him in as well, but Lionel preferred to read or talk to his father.
As Lionel grew up, went to school, and learned more and more about the world around him, his father nurtured the young panther’s love of math and of plants. The Adino family had always been in charge of The Gardens, and as the oldest Lionel was the obvious heir. One day, this love of The Gardens changed when the gentle panther was separated from his father. For an hour or two he wandered, feeling no real fear. It was when the sun set that he began to panic. The Garden was different at night, the branches of trees seeming to reach out to ensnare him, and plants choking the air around him. He could hear voices, people calling for him, but the maze of paths he ran along only made him more lost. Finally he hid beneath a bush, sobbing. That was where he was found come morning, a shivering wet mess.
Since then Lionel avoided The Gardens, only venturing in if he was with others and it was in the clear daytime. His love of plants remained, but he began to focus on his strong bent towards math instead.
When Lionel was 20, his life changed. He and his father had talked for some time about the Adino fortune and Lionel’s status as heir. He’d never really gotten over his childhood fear of The Gardens, and he did wish to become a math teacher. His father was understanding, having always been close to his eldest son, and was ready to appoint another child of his as the heir. Before this could happen he passed away, dying quietly in the night. Lionel was thrown into a whirlwind of legal proceedings, all in a hazy state of shock, and slowly came to understand that his father was gone and he was left to care for all that the Adino family owned.
Within a year his mother passed as well, leaving the Adino children with only each other for support. Lionel, as the oldest, did his best to keep his family together, but slowly the three siblings began to grow apart. His sister moved on, off to create her own name in the world, and his younger brother stayed at the estate, a grumpy and distant personality. Lionel lives, for the most part, alone in the Adino estate, unable to find time to make any real friends or even look into finding a future mate.
