Character Name: Jack Rodin
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Species/Breed: Rat
Current Occupation: Angel
Personality: Jack started to commonly play the anti-hero after his brush with death. He’s very rude to people he’s not familiar with and he’ll only do something if there is personal gain or if he is manipulated into action. He’s a smart fellow and knows how to play his cards right. Business comes first, friends come second. Clients and hoodlums don’t screw with him because of the hard face he puts on. Not only that but he cares a spear, a rifle, and a set of knives on him at all times. He’s very confident in his line of work, seems obsessive when he’s out on a hunt.
The anti-hero is toned down when he’s around people he’s very close too. He was born into a big family so he’s not a stranger when it comes to interacting. He acts just like anyone else when he’s around his few friends and his large family. Laughing and carrying on just like anyone else.
Appearance: Jack is a very tall fellow, who stands above the average crowd. His build is slightly below average, but he is not skinny. His coat is a light wooden brown color, darkening around his eyes, arms, and legs. He is a handsome fellow, however, his face is often hidden from view. When he is outside, he wears a technological respirator. A small trinket that fits over his face, warming the air when he inhales and shooting out steam in front of his shoulders when he exhales. Without this trinket the cold air would kill him.
Along with the mask, he wears a heavy coat garbed in animal skins. His whole appearance is made up of cloth, skins and other dead things that cover him entirely.
His appearance can be a bit intimidating, however, you can see him for what he is once he’s indoors. He has a long pair of whiskers, a good-hearted face, and a charming appearance. His tail is very long, dragging behind him wherever he goes since rats don’t posses as much control of their tails as other furres.
Since he has connections with the Angels, he usually keeps his weapons on him at all times. Proudly displayed along the streets of St. Lucent. His most noteworthy weapon is a great long fisherman’s spear, sharpened to an extremely deadly point. However, the weapon is noteworthy because it is equipped with an anti-gravity brace. This little tool was designed to lessen the weight on tools used by construction workers. It will take at least 20 pounds off an item, making Jack’s spear weigh virtually nothing.
Background: Jack came from a very wealthy family which horded their money. They did a damn well job at it too, especially since their children didn’t even know about their wealth. They lived in a small house barely able to fit their eight-child family. Jack was the second oldest child. He and his siblings had to make due sharing living space and food.
Why live this way if you had money? You see Jack’s parents strongly believed that putting their children through college was the most important thing they could do for them. In a place like St. Lucent, you could buy something big and shiny to have it stolen or vandalized the next day, however, you could never take someone’s education. So they horded their money and lived in a small shack by the ocean with their eight children.
Jack’s father owned his own fishing boat and with it he hired on fishing hands. What he made of his catches were sold to companies or they were took straight to Jack’s mother who ran a popular street stand. When the children were not in school, they would either help their mother out at her stand, or they would work as extra hands on their father’s boat. Given that they were fit for the job. A fisherman’s job was deadly, especially in St. Lucent’s climate where the water could kill you in a matter of seconds.
This leads to a big turning point in Jack’s life. He was a very fit kid, ending up working on his father’s boat at a very young age. When the time came he chose the college path unlike his older sibling. On the off time, he still worked on his father boat. He loved the job so much that he was determined to stay there even after college. However, the ship was caught in a bad storm. Like always, the fisherman would continue to do their dangerous job, only worsened in the heat of the storm.
A great wave struck, crashing itself over the deck. Knocking the fisherman off their feet and scattering them across the deck. Jack and two other hands were knocked into the icy cold ocean. When they gained their bearings, the remaining fisherman quickly went into action, trying to revive their comrades from the sea.
They managed to get the first guy out pretty quickly. Jack and the other hand proved to take longer. Eventually, they managed to get hold of Jack and drag him out from the sea. When they finally got to the third fisherman, he’d already been killed by hypothermia. Jack had gone into shock and had to be rushed back to a St. Lucent hospital. They saved the kid but he ended up suffering a long-term condition. His lungs were now brittle and he wouldn’t be able to travel outdoors without a respiration mask and a heavy set of clothing. He was told that the condition of his work would quickly kill him if he returned.
He continued to work his way through college, unsure what he was going to do when he finally got out. Instead of working on the ship where he belonged, he helped out at his mother’s stand. It was there in the streets, exposed to the variety of stands where Jack found his profession. Some of the shops included meats, pelts, and other materials obtained from wild animals. Hunting animals and catching fish sounded very similar to Jack, so he took up hunting as his profession.
Once he graduated, his parents helped him afford the top line tools of the trade. A big heavy garb to keep him warm, a spear equipped with an anti-gravity trinket, top-line rifles, knives, and other things. He proved to be pretty successful in the trade. The role of a community provider seemed to flow in his blood. Eventually a member of the Angels spotted him, hiring him into their ranks. He would be able to make much more money as compared to his current occupation. Of course, he accepted and went through his training with great haste. When the time came to make his sacrifice, he was asked to give up something certain due to his quick training. That thing was connection with his family. Abandoning his family was hard for Jack to imagine, but in the end he chose favor of it. Now he works in animal control for public safety, mostly outside the walls of St. Lucent and inside the maze of the Dark District. On occasion, he will be called in for special jobs that range from hunting down animals for studies to taking on assassination jobs. Sacrificing contact with his family has left him with little familiarities. His rude behavior towards strangers leaves him with little room to make close connections.
