The sun was high in the sky, he reminded himself, high enough that he would have a few hours to be in the gardens without the fear of nightfall. Lionel peered at the sky again, as if the sun would disappear and leave him in the darkness at any moment. Wiping his clammy paws on his pants, he ventured further into The Gardens. They were beautiful, he could not deny it, but they terrified him to the core. Steering clear of his younger brother's voracious plants, he headed to the places that had the power to calm his nerves. As he neared the rushing, trickling sounds of water, the black panther could feel his shoulders loosen and the worrying line between his blue eyes disappear.
Within a few minutes Lionel had shed his jacket and shoes, rolling up the sleeves of his pale gold shirt in order to not soil it. It felt good to have his feet on soft turf again, a feeling he loved. Extending his claws, he dug them in slightly and sighed in happiness. Sitting on the edge of a stone wall, he began to pull over some vividly blooming floating flowers, inspecting them to ensure their healthiness. Yes, the Gardens had the best of caretakers, but water plants were Lionel's special love. He liked to double check that they were okay. His long skinny tail twitched languidly on the grass as he immersed his forearms in water, totally lost to his work.
