Character Name: "Athrun Zane" Sourentis
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Species/Breed: Bird/White Swan
Current Occupation: High School Student / Part-Time Wallside Café Waiter / Angel Apprentice (Desired Special: Piloting)
Personality:
Athrun Zane is the type of guy who everybody sees as the "loner." He has a hard stare and an even more uncomfortable glare, showing that he doesn't exactly like the company of other people. He appears to be the quiet type to most, but upon being spoken to or annoyed, he's found to have a quick wit and a punctual tone.
With a harsh outward appearance, he tends to attract the attention of others unintentionally. They who attempt to befriend him are often shot down by his intense expressions of disapproval or irritation. They who he is forced to befriend, however, have just as bad a time as the others. He doesn't like being social or around others, and he definitely makes it obvious.
A plus, however, is that should someone he's actually gotten friendly with be in a jam, he will do anything in his power to help. His twin sister Sonata is his weak spot; he'd do just about anything for her, should she just ask.
As said before, Athrun Zane is just about as loyal as an untamed terrier (OOC: which is not very, since I'm talking about my Jack Russell...) to random furres around him. His loyalties lie solely with his sister and those she is fond of.
He absolutely loves poetry & artistry... although, his tastes are rather... on the dark side. He's not a generally happy person and often finds himself putting down others at a moment's notice, so it's not surprising that he has a depressing outlook on life.
His twin sister Sonata is the only person he's been able to find himself calm around. Her mere presence tends to settle him down and cause his aggression to subside. Is this a twin thing?
Athrun Zane is easily annoyed or irritated, especially by the female species, with the exception of his beloved sister. For some odd reason, a few girls at his school have approached him, asking him if he was an Angel, not an Angel-Angel, but an Angel in the religious manner. That joke/pick-up line has gotten too old already.
As an Angel Apprentice, you would think that he'd be more humble & respectful... Wrongo! He acts just as distrustful as he normally does & just as rebellious; however, becoming an Angel was his sister's wish, so should work be thrown his way, he will get it done. He may not look it, but he is quite the hard worker... Needless to say, the only people who know this are his teachers & his sister.
With a rough outer exterior, he hardly shows how vulnerable he truly is... vulnerable in ways that one wouldn't understand, though. He has an obsession with being in control of his feelings, so he shuts himself in when in public. Only his sister has seen the true Athrun Zane, so far...
Appearance:
Athrun Zane, like other white swans, has a mostly bright & shiny coat of feathers covering his body. Strangely, his feathers very noticeably stand up like hair would on a furred animal's neck when they're cautious or are distrusting. The only time his feathers are not shown like this is when his sister is around him.
When he stands in front of other furres, he tends to have his arms folded over his chest with his back up straight. If he's near a wall, he usually just leans back against it, careful not to mess with his wings, and listens to whatever is going on around him. He doesn't seem to care or to be listening most of the time, but don't be fooled, he is listening.
He has a long, pure white neck that leads up to his black-marked, red-orange billed face. The slightly longer feathers atop his head are also spiked out, but it seems to be his equivalent to the furres' hair. His eyes are a clear, almost white, blue color, giving his stares & glares a supernatural look to them. The eyes are the windows to the soul, as they say... His eyes are mostly filled with completely mixed emotions, but none of them are known to be positive.
As Sonata wished, he joined the Angels; although, he doubts she knew what she was getting him into. She'd heard the word "Angel" and immediately thought of her white-colored brother, as most girls do. Upon joining, he had to give something that he treasured up...
He absolutely would not[/b][/u] give up contact with his sister, so he gave up his beloved though injured right wing. Replacing it now is a mechanical wing made of a thin metal, and it is even equipped with Hover Technology. Athrun Zane, however, has not been seen flying by his wings since he first learned to fly.
He usually keeps his mechnical & real wing hidden under a convincing black cloak he's never seen without.
Background:
Athrun Zane & Sonata were born in East Lucent, which leads to wonder how their parents managed to bring them up fairly well. Once they were both old enough, their mother attempted to teach them to fly. Sonata didn't exactly pick it up right away... but Athrun Zane seemed to come out a natural. He absolutely loved the feeling he got as he flew through the air.
A few weeks later, however... Athrun Zane was flying happily through a random public park, but he accidentally rammed his right wing into an already broken-in tree. The once perfect, almost angelic apprendage had been twisted the wrong way and had chunks of sticks stabbing into it far enough to draw blood.
His mind was scarred by the sight of the red blotches that stained his pure white wing and by the pain that had accompanied it. His parents were able to pay for his wing to be mended, but there was nothing they could do about his mentality. Athrun Zane was never seen flying again after that.
When the two, different colored twin siblings turned 10 years old, their parents were killed before their very eyes by quite the shady characters. They too would have been killed if Sonata had not have pulled her horror-stricken brother away and off into the maze of concrete alleyways.
The sight of their own parents blood... after the incident with his wing, it had just about driven him over the edge. His sister was the only one who was able to keep him sane...
With the thugs who killed their parents gone, they retreated back to their house and wound up living off of what they could find that their parents had left behind. It wasn't hard... they were exactly rich, but they weren't exactly poor either.
Upon reaching their teens, Athrun Zane's mind began to take a turn in thought. He started thinking more negatively and was less free-spirited than when he was young. He trusted no one... no one but his sister. However, though he literally worshiped Sonata, he also felt a deep hatred toward her. She had been stronger than he was when their parents died... He hadn't been able to control himself and it had almost cost him his life. He owed his sister so much... but he couldn't stand her.
When he became old enough, he got a job at the Wallside Café as a bus boy, but as his hard work added up, he was promoted to being an actual waiter. He doesn't mind the job and doesn't really accept any other promotions or in-person tips. If somebody pays the bill & leaves a tip and just leaves, he takes the money in an almost annoyed manner.
As long as it pays the bills, right?
Now, at age 17, Athrun Zane has become friendless and loveless. He still does everything Sonata says in a heartbeat, but toward everyone else, he's that guy that everyone wishes they could know better, but who won't let anyone come anywhere near him.
He joined Angels under command of his sister... his oblivious twin sister... To this day, he doubts she understood that he'd have to give something up... and that what he gave up was one of his beloved wings. If he's sensitive about anything, it's about his wings.
His love for flight is still in tact, though... He wants to specialize in piloting as an Angel, so that he can still soar high without having to use his wings.
With his final year of High School coming through (he'll turn 18 this year), he hopes to make it into a college that he can get an Art major in. He absolutely adores art... paintings, sketches, watercolors, abstract... you name it.
If there are two things that he loves to do, they're flying and drawing.
