Character Name: Estanza "Ess" Gelerti, known by the Angels as either Hannah (her middle name, also her mother's name) or, by Angel friends, Gelli. Pronounced like "jelly". Don't ask xD

Age: Twenty-two
Species/Breed: 1/2 border collie, 1/2 giraffe
Current Occupation: Angel, one of the very few Lucentians capable of creating custom skyboards. She owns a shop and provides skyboards for sky-high prices.
Personality: Ess is a tomboy, yes, but that doesn't take up her entire personality. She has a tendency to take very good care of her long hair, brushing and conditioning it until it shines and refusing to cut it. She is very much enamored with mechanics and gets a gleam in her eyes whenever she gets to talk about them. She sometimes forgets that not everyone understands the elements of creating a skyboard and rambles on, tossing out large terms this way and that until she snaps out of her trance long enough to notice the strange looks she is beginning to receive. She is good-natured, but she is not a saint. Her barking laugh is heard very often, and she usually wear a crooked grin. She drives a tough bargain and will rarely change her mind once it's been decided. She is as stubborn as a mule. She feels uncomfortable in cushy surroundings and prefers to live a bit roughly, despite her rather large income.
Appearance: Ess has a slim build with very long legs. Her neck is also a bit longer than usual. Her body is covered with chestnut hair, splotched with white in random places. She has a big, bushy tail, thanks to her border collie genes. Her hair is very curly, auburn and almost waist-length; she keeps is back in a long braid or pigtails most of the time. She has a collie's muzzle, slim and pointed. Her throat and underside of her muzzle is white. Her eyelashes are long and full, hinting at her giraffe blood. She has large, bright brown eyes that give her an almost gentle and innocent look. Both of her cheeks reveal dimples when she grins. Her ears are pricked, not floppy like a dog's (they stand straight up instead of being folded down.) Her left ear is white, her right ear is chestnut. Both bear three piercings, with the two farthest-up studs being diamonds and the ones closest to the base are gold rings. She has one tattoo on her left hip of a red rose and its stem. Ess often wears a low-rise pair of jeans, every pair torn and faded by wear rather than high-end companies. She usually wear equally worn t-shirts which bear the emblems of numerous bands or perhaps a slogan or company logo. She often wears a skull cap as well, which sports holes to allow her ears to protrude from it. Multiple wristbands rest on her right wrist, most of which are various colors of braided rope. Her leather tool belt is often slung around her hips, just waiting for her to whip out one of her fancy trinkets to fix or make a skyboard. The Angels insignia is branded across her back, her Angels PIN beneath ti (4000645).
Background: Ess was born to a very poor family. Her father was skipping from job to job and her mother was a maid. She had a younger brother, Jeffrey, who was often bullied because of her ragged clothing. Ess became very protective of Jeffrey and began to retaliate against his aggressors until they finally stopped bugging him.
Ess was eight when she saw a few blurs streaking past far off in the distance. She asked her father what they were, and he told her about skyboards. Ess was fascinated and determined to enter this fantastic world of skyboard racing, but her family could not afford something as expensive as a skyboard.
Ess began to work odd jobs, though she did not save the money for herself. She hoped that her parents would magically reward her hard work with a skyboard but, of course, that was impossible. By some odd chance, Ess managed to hook a job as a delivery person for a mechanical parts manufacturer. She was often sent to various skyboard creators, one of which was Vincent Cergatelli. Vincent himself was a well-known skyboard racer and he took a liking to the spunky young girl, who was twelve at the time. He began lending her a skyboard and teaching her some basic moves. Seeing her affinity for the sport, he offered free training to Ess, who immediately agreed.
With her parents thinking that she was off working, Ess trained until she was experienced enough to enter her first race. She came in third, but was still able to claim a monetary prize. Race after race later, Ess was beginning to rake in a enough money to single-handedly support her family. Her parents were so ecstatic that they didn't even think to ask how exactly she had happened upon an odd job that provided to much money.
Ess grew to become a popular skyboarding idol, well-known enough that she caught the eye of the Angels. She was reccomended [sp?] and agreed to joining. She chose to give up skyboarding, the most important thing in her life. She was allowed to open a skyboarding shop, however, as that did not directly revoke her sacrifice.
