Typical weather... I might as well stay here for a while, at least to see if it'll calm down a little. Lenore loved the Gardens, especially with some of the flowers starting to blossom and bloom. Summer would be here soon, and the plants knew it, whether the city's residents did or not. With a smile, she made her way back towards the back of the building, to where the workers could keep their belongings as they worked.
She was one of the few, along with her brothers, who had a small locker. With a smile, she reached in and grabbed her notebook and a pencil, and made her way back towards the visitor's areas. It didn't take her long to make her way to the blooming plants in a smaller room, and she grinned, sitting down on one of the many benches and opening her notebook to a blank page. She thought for a moment, and, carefully, put pencil to paper and began to sketch out the forms of buds, leaves, and stems of one plant in particular, her dark blue eyes flashing between the paper and the wall of plants.

Hector, the youngest of the Adino siblings, had also decided to spend his day in the family Gardens. He held his staff in his left hand, using it occasionally as a third leg. The kid was only 17 years old; he still liked to have fun. He'd mime having a bum leg, or jumping on one foot with his staff as the second, but of course he only did this when nobody was looking. He had once thought about pretending that one of his plants ate his hand, but Hector was, overall, a serious person, and also didn't want to unnecessarily scare his sister, though a true prankster would have found it hilarious.
A red velvet cloak swivelled around him in the chilly breeze. Slight gusts of wind could almost be seen freezing in midair, but Hector wasn't that cold, and neither were the plants that were almost in sight.
With a slight shock as he entered the main area of the Gardens, Hector noticed his older sister, Lenore, drawing one of the plants. He hadn't expected company, especially on such a chilly day. He walked up next to her quietly, then knelt beside her to observe her work. He always liked to watch her draw the organisms he loved so much, and this one just happened to be one of his favorite types of plants, pretty and poisonous.
"So, Lenore, why'd you decide to draw this one today?" he asked her curiously, smiling at her. He loved hearing her reasons for drawing certain plants based on her mood. Some days, when she felt light as air, she'd draw the long leafed plants that bend with the wind, but if she was upset, the plant would often be short, stubbled, and often spiked. It was always interesting to hear how she compared her mood to his obsession.

Her page had quickly filled with drawings of the plant, multiple buds and leaves around the page, as well as a few ideas of what the blossoms would look like. She smiled as she examined her work, her dark ears twitching slightly as she heard her brother's voice behind her.
Slowly, she turned her head to look at him, chuckling lightly at is comments regarding the plant of choice. She thought for a moment, taking a deep breath as she looked back at the paper and up to the buds on the wall before her.
"Well, dear brother, I had wanted to wait for the weather to die down a bit before heading back home, and I like this plant anyway. You should know that part, at least." She chuckled again, setting the notebook and pencil down on the bench beside her and raising her arms over her head for a few seconds, stretching her muscles and popping her back.

"Waiting for the weather to die down?" Hector asked smiling ruefully, "Lenore, you should know by now that the weather never dies down. Personally though, I don't find it that bad. But of course...I am quite the fan of the outdoors. If you find it so chilly however, then do you want to go inside? I had come to check up on everything...but if you'd like to, then, I suppose I could come with you."
As he spoke, the panther started moving about the rows of plants in the garden, checking on some, prodding others and watching them attack his staff. It was quite fun to watch. Being daring in order to unsettle his sister, he then put his paw up to one of the carnivorous plants. However, instead of biting his hand off, the plant made a slight purring sound and cuddled up to his hand, which stroked the plant. He knew Lenore hated it when he did things so dangerous and potentially harmful, but she really needed to get used to the fact that Hector was a courageous little thing.

Laughing and rolling her eyes, she stood up, leaving her notebook and pencil behind for now, her large skirt flowing around her as she made her way towards her brother. She frowned as Hector reached towards a typically dangerous plant, opening her mouth to say something as it started purring and nuzzling his hand. With a sigh, she shook her head, almost glaring at him as she walked over, the skirt of her dress billowing lighty after her.
"You know, it's not nice to give your sister a heart attack." She turned her eyes to look down at the plant, seemingly harmless at the moment, though it could easily devour a young child in the matter of an hour or so. It wasn't the most colorful or anything, but it was still a wonderful plant, each individual only trusting one or two furres for it's life. She hadn't been lucky enough to be trusted by one yet, though it was clear that Hector knew his distinctively.

Hector put up his other hand warningly as she approached. "Try not to come any closer or it might really bite my hand off if it feels threatened." Some of the spikes on its leaves had raised as Lenore approached. "And I'm sure I didn't give you a heart attack. I've done much worse that you've reacted better to. Remember the prank I pulled last April fools? When I ran off into the carnivorous garden maze and screamed bloody murder. Now you almost killed me for that one."
The panther gave the plant one last stroke on it's bulbous head and turned and walked closer to Lenore. His red velvet cloak billowed in the wind, almost snagging a bush before Hector pulled his precious cloak in closer. The bush in question hissed slightly and Hector prodded it with his staff. "Bad bush, velvet is NOT good for your digestive system."

She stopped where she was and rolled her eyes, thinking back to the stupid stunt Hector had pulled the previous year. Looking back on it now, it was slightly humorous, though still not acceptable in her eyes. "You know, it wasn't just me that was going to kill you. Our brother would've, if you hadn't gotten away so quickly afterwards. And you know Mother and Father wouldn't approve of such shenanigans, either." She gave him a stern look, her deep blue eyes staring hard into his.
She turned her gaze to the plant that had almost taken a bite of his 'precious' cloak, a small smirk pulling at her muzzle as she wondered what he would do if it had gotten ahold of it. "You know, it's not nice to poke and prod things like that. How would you like it if something bigger and tougher came up to you and just jabbed you in the side?" With that, she grinned and leaned over to him, poking him somewhat hard in his side, just below the ribs, though she knew it wasn't hard enough to hurt him... Much.

Hector twitched at her touch, extremely ticklish. "It deserved it though, it tried to eat my cloak! How would you feel if someone tried to eat one of YOUR most prized possessions?" Laughing, he leered over her and started tugging on the sleeve of her dress with his teeth. "Mmmm, ummy," he said with a muffle, looking up at his older sister.
Thinking back on what she had said about his pranks though, he sneered and let go of his dress. "And I don't give a bloody damn what our older brother does. He's just...well, I'd rather not say. You don't like it when I...you know."
Now a bit aggravated at the thought of his brother, now the "head of the Adino clan", Hector walked a bit, going around aimlessly in a circle. He didn't deserve such an honor; he, Hector, deserved to be head of the clan. His brother was nothing but a math loving coward. Pah.

Frowning, Lenore shook her finger at him, obviously disapproving of what Hector was about to say regarding their brother. "Hector, you know Lionel works just as hard as we do in the gardens. There must have been a good reason Father left him in charge over one of us. You know as well as anyone how much Father and Mother loved the gardens, do you think he would leave Lionel in charge if he didn't think he would do a good job, or if he didn't think he could learn something from them?"
With that, she looked down at the sleeve that Hector had had in his teeth, giving a small chuckle as she wiped it smooth again. Looking back at her younger brother, smiling and wrapping her arm over his shoulders. "Come on, Hector, cheer up. At least you have the dangerous plants that won't kill you. They'd attack me and Lionel in a heartbeat."

Hector sneered. "Yeah, good reason for being in charge, being Daddy's little math boy. That's the only reason. Mother had no say in it, the Adino clan descends down the male line. Mother didn't matter. But Father had his ickle Lioniepoo...Ah, never mind, I should just shut up, shouldn't I. I hate making you mad..."
Lenore's comforting words did nothing to calm his mood. "And I don't pride myself in being able to take care of the plants! I would pride myself in calming them so that they're not dangerous anymore and wouldn't try to hurt you." He tried to shake her arm off of his shoulder like she was an irritating gnat. "I don't want people to look up to me just because I'm brave and courageous and take dangerous challenges. First of all, I take them because I like it, and second of all, I want them to look up to me because I've helped them not because I am capable of the action. Yet no one seems to bloody understand that! 'Oh, that Hector Adino? Yes, he tries to show off with those plants of his. Bloody egocentric.' It's so damn STUPID. I enjoy it. And I believe I've succeeded in some areas. Canceo has been letting others stroke him when he's in a good mood. That's why I do this, not for the bloody honor. However, it'd be nice if I COULD be recognized for once. No...instead...it's Lionel the mathematician who I bet wouldn't get off his ass to try to save some child being eaten by a plant who gets all the recognition. I'm sorry Lenore, but it's true."
Shivering a bit in the cold wind, unlikely for the panther to do, Hector gripped his staff as if trying to crack it into pieces. It was also being pushed down into the hard, wind-cracked soil as Hector's cloak billowed out in the strong gust.

Lenore listened to her brother's words, carefully considering her next statements. "You know, a lot of people say stuff like that because they're jealous. They know you can do something they can't, so they feel the need to try to put you down for it." She removed her arm from his shoulders, now stepping in front of him and placing a finger under his chin to look him in the eyes. "Hector, you shouldn't worry about what they have to say about you. You should only worry about what you want to do, what you have to do. You need to protect me, and everyone, from the big scary plants that'll eat our faces off." She gave a small smile, releasing his chin and folding her arms over her chest, turning to one of the larger, calmer plants of the gardens. "This one in particular. It'll attack me in my sleep." She grinned, glancing at Hector out of the corner of her eyes. "Don't worry, Hector, your day will come when people realize how much work you do to help the plants, as well as to help us so we don't get killed by anything."

Hector smiled feebly. Lenore's words helped, sure, but...not quite enough. "Thanks Lenore...It means a lot..." However, though he was grateful for Lenore's attitude, he still brooded inside. It was best for him to hide it; he hated making Lenore sad.
"Hey," he asked her, "Do you wanna go inside? It's getting really, really cold...which is something, coming from me. The plants are fine...I made sure they're well fed. It's just...really cold...I mean, isn't it supposed to be coming into 'summertime'? Why's it so much colder than usual?"

She smiled softly, turning to Hector and patting his shoulder. "I only want the best for my favorite little brother." She thought about what he said last, frowning slightly as she looked up to the sky. The dark clouds passed by slowly, the cold winds carrying them away, along with a few stray leaves that had fallen off the plants. A chill ran down her back as she looked to her brother once more, nodding and wrapping her arm around his shoulders again. "Yea, let's head inside, I don't want you to get sick or anything. Where do you want to go?" She awaited her brother's lead, pulling the skirt of her dress up a little, just enough to keep herself from tripping as they went.

Lenore's words provoked a smile from Hector, "I never get sick, sis. You know that. I was just thinking...you know...so YOU don't get sick." He gave her a sheepish smile. "As to where we should go...I don't really care...maybe just back to the house. You must be hungry."
The truth was that Hector was really the hungry one, he just didn't want to admit it. Especially to his all too caring older sister. He didn't want to be an object to fawn over and need protection; he could survive by himself. He didn't really want to, but he could, and he wanted to prove himself more than capable of doing so. Anything to get one up on Lionel.
