"No," Guess told Athos firmly. "I have some standards in my life. They may not be anything you would look up to, but I keep to them. " Standing up she held her chin high in the air. "I can fend for myself. If I was caught then it was meant to be. The Father directs us as he sees fit." The rabbit recited something that she had been told many times by the priests at St. Ethel’s.
It wasn't often that she brought up her beliefs to people, but right then it just seemed right. If she didn't then she might have money forced upon her. There was a rule to her thievery. If she had to sink that low her targets would be people unknown to her. The situation of the person unclear. Now that the snake had told her about himself she could not... would not take anything from him

Rook studdied her carefully, but there was a bit of respect there now. He reminded himself that she was a law-breaker and he was on duty, this sort of thing had got him caned all the time as an Apprentice for being unruly and interpersonal....hah! He was the last thing from that now wasn't he?
Turning back to her he inquired, not able to push back his curiosity "You think it's more honorable to steal from someone than to take what is offered"?

Athos shrugged. My she was a confusing one. "Alright, if you don't want to take anything that's fine. If there's anything I can do for you, just let me know. I've worked a lot of jobs, might be able to find one with an opening for you. There's a lot of places I used to visit that would only hire ladies. Women seem to sell goods better than men in the owner's opinions." Great, he didn't even have enough money for her to WANT to steal from him now, or accept a gift. Kind of insulting in a way, not that he'd take it personally. Pickpockets were always after the bigger scores, some rich aristocrat. He was barely better off than her.

Guessine nodded to Athos, "I can find my own job. I've done it myself plenty of times." Looking back to Rook she gave an indigent sniff. "I think it is better to steal from someone you don't know. Better to take without knowing what it might cause. To take from him would be taking away a meal. I can't do that. It would be against what I believe. Yet to take from him when all I know is that he has money, then that is fine with me.
"I'll pay back the Shylock before I pay the store. I'll give to the children, but take from their parents. I'll honor the law, but break it if needs be. I'm sure to an Angel this seems rather confusing, but you don't have to understand it. I do so that is all that matters." Guess flipped her hair back into place, seeing as how her bangs had fallen into her eyes as she had spoken.

'Well as long as you don't do it in front of me, then have the best of luck" he said stiffly, his claws hummed once again, the light from them brightening once more and then dimming away to nothing like an admonished street lamp.

"Is everything take with you? Is there no accepting of gifts? No listening to someone who offers advice or accepting something that you need if it is willingly offered? Stealing is not the only thing you are capable of, and if you have need of help in any way, what harm is there in asking? I ask when I need help."
Athos shrugged, turning back to the Angel. "Well sir, I guess I've delayed you long enough? If there's nothing else I can do for you, and nothing you wish of me, I suppose I should be going."

"Don't ever try to pull the 'Ask, and it shall be given you.' I have lived far to long to know that it won't work. Any how I suffer from pride in the highest degree. It may be a sin, but then no one is perfect." She gave Athos a little wink. "I mean when is the last time you did something questionable?"
Not even waiting for her answer she turned around to the Angel. "The snake is going, so I will depart as well. G'night kind sirs. G'night defenders of truth. G'night and may you never have a prideful heart." The sarcasm seeped out of her mouth as she talked. She made sure to bow every time she said good night, for this was a moment she wanted them to remember for sometime.
