Rook's eyes were dull with boredom as he walked down the darkened street, robotic claws humming gently in the background of the passing hover vehicles.
He pulled the collar further up close to his ears on his black trench coat. The night air bit at him, it was deathly cold. Perhaps that's why nothing's happened yet. Even the hookers and the pot heads are indoors. He had thick fur but it helped little as it was freezing, ice had crusted hard over the side walk and Rook looked up as cars whizzed overhead breifly, a small collapsible telescope with night vision clicking in his hand as he crossed the intersection of BURNS and BARLEY.
He looked like a really lethargic jungle cat making it's rounds, Rook did not especially want something bad to happen, he wanted something he could focus his attention on. He sighed. No one was even speeding.
This is supposed to be the bad side of town. PAH! Here, even the criminals are Pussies. Why couldn't I get East Lucent tonight.... The street lamps loomed like Cyclopes in dark cloaks their single orange eyes casting an unfriendly beam and illuminating Rook's shifting shoulders and his own uneasy expression.

Athos was wearing one of his fine blue overcoats as well as about three other layers beneath it, fighting off the chill night air. Yes, his blue overcoat made him look fancy or rich, and it had already caused one little scuffle earlier. Not ten minutes ago he had to throw a punk kid's head into a wall to knock some sense into him and send him running home with a clear message not to try stealing again, as he was rather pathetic at it anyway.
Turning a corner, Athos bumped into Rook and consequentially slipped on the ice underfoot, falling rather heavily to the ground. "My, today just isn't my day is it? Sorry sir, didn't mean to bump into you like that. My mind was elsewhere." Like on the job he lost this morning due to someone else filling the position. Apparently the new person was some kind of family relative who was handed the job over someone who was more than qualified, typical. At least it wasn't the end of the world for him, there were plenty more opportunities out there.

Well I wanted something to happen He thought sardonically as some idiot bumped into him and busted his ass on a strip of ice as long as three yard sticks and as wide a fencepost. As he yammered self consciously Rook did listen but as he always did he looked him over from top to bottom, getting a good picture of him in his mind. Don't see too many snakes down here, it's always too cold for comfort for most of them. That's a fancy coat, kind of odd color. Wonder if he's hiding anything under it or if he's just some nut. Nice though, must've cost a pretty penny. Looks hand woven. Gelphen?
Rook frowned to himself as he turned his head to the side breifly as though he strongly considered just walking away. But his old chivalry kicked in and he reached down, grasping the snake's hand firmly and bringing him to his feet with just a small twitch of his wrist. His claws glowed for a moment and they warmed Athos's hands slightly where the ice had bruised and chilled them.
Letting go and stepping back Rook growled "You should be more careful Mr, it's really treacherous around here lately. Now that I think about it I should probably request an Ice warning to be sent out before it gets any worse".

"Yes, I should think that would be a good idea. Thanks for the hand up by the way." Athos looked at the stranger, glad he was friendly so far. He didn't want to have to fight someone else, two in one night just wasn't his idea of fun. Okay, well, if he knew he could win both fights then maybe. "Say, you wouldn't happen to know of any decent jobs around here would you? Any way a guy could make an honest coin?"
Was this guy looking at his overcoat? He noticed a brief staring sort of look from the stranger, and a none too comforting one at that. Maybe he should just get going before anything went wrong. "What are you doing out here anyway, if I might be so bold as to ask?"

Rook grunted non commitally at the snake's gratitude.
Considering for a moment Rook ran over a bunch of lists in his mind and came up with something , feeble but at least he had tried to help.
"I think Groves, the antique store, could use a worker, It pays well enough, I gotta warn you though it's a weird place and it's a rough job. I worked for the original old man when I was a kid. He busted my ass, his son takes after him too".
His eyes narrowed, not in agression but in intense curiosity. "I'm a member of the Hour Glass Guild, an Angel as we call them around here. We're sort of like cops... but less pussy faced ...more ...selective and more military. I'm the apprentice overseer and I specialize in combat. I'm patrolling this area for trouble makers".
He observed the snake with a little more compassion that before but warilly none the less. There was a little humor in his voice, but a bit of an edge too as he asked "Your not a trouble maker, right my friend"?

Athos smirked. "Well, thanks for the advice on a possible job. Might have to go and check it out. If I don't want to run out of cash and starve on a street corner that is. Though personally if you don't mind my saying, what you do sounds like more fun. Probably more risk though... and I'm not sure which would pay better."
Athos laughed at the trouble maker comment. "That depends my friend, on whether or not you believe someone who throws a very poor attempted mugger's head into a wall is trouble or not. I suppose that either makes me trouble, or makes me the exact opposite. Don't worry, he ran home after a lesson in manners, he's not bleeding in the street or anything. I'd only do that if I didn't mess up my outfit and if it were someone I really didn't like."

Leeroy was an energetic little thing, he typically always was, now more so than ever. He slept pretty much all day and was fully charged. Charlie, on the other hand was not. He was tired and somewhat irritable, well.. a little more than usual. Leeroy was running (as well as a three year old could run, that is) a bit ahead of his father, just merrily moving a long, not really paying attention to where he was going.
"Leeroy! Get back here.. there's ice on the sidewalk. If you are to slip I'd rather you be near me than somewhere else. " Charlie said, the volume of his voice raised a bit to get his son's attention. Sure, he wasn't too far ahead of him, but that didn't matter. Charlie didn't like it when Leeroy started walking off in random directions. This was the "good" part of town, but still.
The toddler nodded and shouted a simple " 'Kay " and scampered back towards his dad. Still happy as can be. Tail wagging and everything. He had a problem with walking, he couldn't maintain a constant speed. Leeroy kept running ahead, then stopping, and running again. It was pretty annoying. This kid needed a leash or something.
A couple of people up ahead caught Leeroy's eye, being the naturally curious chap he was, he darted up towards them. He tried his best to keep an eye out for the ice his father had mentioned. As he got closer, Leeroy noticed that one of the two up ahead was wearing a strangely coat. Naturally, bright and or unusual colours amused and intrigued him, so he tried to get closer to the others he had seen.
Charlie, needless to say, was not amused. At all. He made his way toward Leeroy, going as fast as he could while still watching for the ice. He would get a leash for that kid. It may have just been frustration that had made him think of that, but that was a good idea.
"Leeroy," Charlie murmured, ".. you'd best not be doing this again."
Charlie hadn't really been paying attention to what his son had been "running" towards, but he now noticed that there were two people up ahead. Oh well.. Leeroy's plans of interacting with others today would not work. Nope. Too bad for him.
(Sorry! I hadn't the slightest idea of what to put.. defiantly not the best.)

"You might want to watch the kid. Who knows what might happen to him.” Guess said as she pasted Charlie making sure that sure brushed up against him to steal his wallet. Slipping the square money holder into her pocket she said over her shoulder, “You know I hate to see a little one like that get hurt.” With a wink she continued forwards.
She was wearing a simple double-breasted white trench coat that had a full skirt and exaggerated collar that was brought in at just the right spots to show off her curves. A pair of black tights clung to her legs that lead to white heels, which had metal studs underneath so that the one wearing them wouldn’t slip on any ice. A metallic red umbrella completed the out fit.
Coming up to the next two men she smiled sweetly. “I hope you boys are having a nice night.” She could only make one hit, so she picked the snake that seemed to have more money than the dog thing. Passing by she faked a trip and stumbled against the man with the blue coat. “Oh, sorry, that was clumsy of me.” As she pushed herself away she let her paw dart into his pocket seeing if there was anything she could grab.

Rook's reaction was swift and vicious, he hadn't followed her directly with his eyes so she could not see them following her, sharp and brightening from gray to silver. Her paw was still in Athos's pocket as Rook went very still for a moment, looking downward before his left arm reached out, fast as fuck and grabbed her wrist in a vice like grip, intent on tearing her away from Athos and holding her off to his left side, his huge robotic claws turning from a natural looking transparent to a hot white, digging in her wrist and calculating as they suddenly glowed and hummed.

Guess let out a small gasp when the other man grabbed her arm in a bone crunching grip. Feet being pulled away from the ground she tried to reach out and kick the bastard that was treating her like a rag doll. "One good kick should do it," she thought. Then her arm felt like someone had shoved it into a oven. Her whole body went stiff with pain.
The rabbit knew she should have left these two alone. It had run through her mind more than once. Only now did she realize why it had been that she had felt the need to leave these two alone. The wolverine holding her was an Angel. There was no doubt in her mind. He held himself too proud, he never let his place linger on one thing too long. She had seen all the signs and still walked into this.
Letting her body go limp Gesine hoped this would be over quickly. She needed to get back to the little ones. Sure there where the older children who would take over, but if she was gone longer than a day or two they'd be lost. She had told them she'd be back tonight and then this happened. Why, oh why? she asked herself as she hung from the Angel's burning grip. Tears streamed down her face. Even as much as this hurt she would show no more pain than the few water droplets that escaped from her eyes.

As soon as she went limp Rook released her however, he gave her a glare that specifically ordered her not to run. Then he'd just have to chase her down. Seeing her tears, he felt an pang of guilt burn warm under his fur I diddn't mean to hurt her, she was only picking pockets...I can't control it sometimes. These were unwanted emotions however and he did his best to push the guilt aside. Sometimes he wished he had chosen to replace something less lethal, like his eye. He couldn't stab, burn or decapitate anyone with an eye.
Looking at her he said calmly "Ma'am, You won't scar, it won't even leave a mark." His claws had sent signals of pain and heat to her nerves, to stun her he supposed he regarded her severely and growled "Why did you try to steal this man's personal possessions"?

Athos looked at the poor person who had just been taught a lesson by the "cop" and sighed. "It's the coat isn't it? Everyone thinks I'm rich when they see this thing, but take a look for yourself." Athos pulled out his wallet from an inner chest pocket and opened it up, revealing all of thirty bucks. "I'm between jobs, running out of cash, and looking for work. Doesn't mean I can't dress nicely though. And you're the second person today who tried to pick my pocket."
Athos was aware of two other people nearby, one of them a little child. Hopefully the kid didn't see any violence, it wouldn't be good for him. Athos turned to meet the other strangers, figuring the attempted thief would be dealt with by the apparent wolverine mix. With a smile, he waved to the others.

Glaring up at the Angel with tear filled eyes, Gesine fixed him with the coldest stare she had. "I needed some cash alright. I've been just a down on my luck as the snake has been." She quickly nodded her head towards Athos. Standing up she frowned, "There are too many people here and not enough work." It was true, but the fact of the matter is she hadn't been hired on for a job in some time. Guess suspected someone was ranging on her good name around the underworld.
Looking to where Athos had directed his attention she slipped her hand into her pocket and fingered the wallet she had stolen from the man. The guy had a kid and she'd stolen from him. There was no way she was going to return it now, yet she still felt bad. He had a kid to feed also. On the other hand, Guess had like seven to take care off, and that was just right then. Who knew what tomorrow would bring.

"It does not give you an excuse to take what isn't yours. Nothing does in my opinion. You might make a living off it but don't do it when I'm around. Next time it won't be just a warning" he said brusquely. He felt sort of bad for the woman, usually Angels did not bother with pick pockets but if they saw one stealing they had to react to it, it would be an insult to his oath not to. Besides it seemed like this Athos person, despite his fancy clothes was not in any position to be stolen from.

Athos glanced at her, sighing inwardly. "Alright, miss, tell you what. If you sk me for what little I have, I'll give it to you. You don't always have to take, sometimes there are a few good souls still around that would give all they can to someone who just asks nicely."
He had a couple things back at his little place that could be sold for a few bucks if necessary. Hopefully he'd be able to find a job before that became the case though. Giving away thirty bucks wasn't a massive gesture of kindness, but it was all he had on him aside from his clothing, and he kind of needed that. He wasn't in any position to bestolen from but he could give if he wanted. Maybe it would be just enough to keep her from raiding another man's wallet.
